Welcome to Shua's 1st Newsletter

Building Upon Community

Hello there! Welcome to the first edition of my newsletter. Now why am I starting this? You might be asking. Well as my YouTube channel grows I wanted to create an easier way to update and share things that I think is better suited to share through a newsletter than a 10 min video.

What to Expect

  • In these newsletters I will be sharing:

  • Updates (projects, ideas, merch, etc…)

  • Videos from youtube that I have watched that helped, inspired, and taught me something in the art world

  • Finally a message from the heart to start your week.

YouTube Video of the Week

This week I watched the latest video from Gawx Art “All Artists Are Thieves”

He truly answers one of the hardest questions to define his inspiration. From his parents being musicians, his grandparents are painters like him. His grandfather’s paintings are all over the house he grew up in. “Inspiration is the rocket fuel powering our work.” - Rick Rubin. But it seems he truly pulls inspiration or “rocket fuel” as he puts it from everything and everywhere.

Sooo toDAYYY, he’s going to figure out how stealing like an artist works.

His visual storytelling in my opinion is up there with the greats like Edgar Wright. He uses the character in his videos well, usually clones of himself.

His music and dialogue delivery is always like the feeling the movie whiplash give. a panic feeling. But he tones it up to be chaotic exciting.

Instead of doing this all himself, he reaches out to 6 other artist to play a game of creative telephone. With creators who are different from his own niche. Making things truly interesting.

Also only he can make me watch through an ad read AND pay attention lol.

How does art change the world?

Is it because of the immense beauty it demands people to stop and think or is it because it does something that is the hardest thing for a human to do, change their perspective?

There’s many reason’s art is still sought after and remains to this day, an integral part of history in the making.

That being said…what are you making? Are you a creative?

For me, I find myself re-asking these questions with great scrutiny: What am I making? Who am I creating for? Does anything I make get seen? Am what I’m making as good as my peer creators?

The thing is the meaning and purpose of creation is bigger than these thoughts. They are bigger than me. They are bigger than you.

  • What does it mean to create?

  • What is the purpose?

  • What is your meaning & purpose?

We were not drawn to creation by fate, destiny, or any other mystical power. You weren’t drawn to create, but something happened within you to draw out the creativity.

As children we were exposed to the same encouragement of PLAY. FIND OUT. BE CURIOUS. As adults sometimes the opposite is more true now. How to assimilate.

COMFORT. ASSIMILATE. PLAY IT SAFE. FIT IN.

DISCOMFORT. SPEARHEAD. I DARE YOU. F AROUND & FIND OUT.

These are the Montra’s of a creative. And as a true creative, I’ll add one more: FOLLOW THE FUN.

So, how will you create? What will you create?

Go ahead, change my perspective. You have my consent.
